This project is an augmented reality puzzle game that starts from user’s own room and is triggered by daily objects, leading people to unlock and explore Vincent van Gogh’s bedroom.

There are two types of routes in the game, 2D to 3D and 3D to 2D. In the first route, 3D models and extra information corresponding to Van Gogh’s paintings would pop up if the user is tracking the correct sequence of the images based on puzzles. After finishing all the puzzles, the user would be directed to place The Bedroom (1888) within the frame so that Van Gogh’s bedroom would be unlocked successfully in the AR form. The second route is based on daily objects, which also appear in Van Gogh’s paintings, such as a book, a vase, a potato, and a mirror. While these real objects are tracked, corresponding animations of the 2D artwork would interact with the “still life.”

This application could give the users a glimpse into the history of Van Gogh’s art pieces and bring the display to life. A connection between the user’s daily environment and Van Gogh’s art world could be connected by “unlocking Van Gogh’s bedroom.”
