1 Left to Right: Parametric Representations of Earth, Water, Fire, Air.

In this exercise, we explore the differences in these movements and graphically represent each of the four elements in a fitting style determined by varying color and form. We focus solely on one hand as we recreate the movements that represent the four elements. We began the project by hypothesizing the results of this study. We imagined that the water and air movements may be more fluid and dynamic. Though most dance movements depend the movements of the feet, the technology of fologram is most intuitively based on hand movements. We believe our results successfully demonstrate the energy of the flexing, bending and moving and the intangible qualities behind the elements of water, earth, fire, and air. These tests showcase attempts to embody the element through visual language and color. While some interpretations, like fire took a literal approach, ie, a form that resembles a flame or sparks, other elements evoke more metaphoric forms.
