A Musically-Built-City Algorithm
When hammer hits, we hear the beats, and follow the rhythm until the city goes to sleep.
We navigated how sound can influent the built environment, thus developed a logic that helped us to determine how a city is formed. The urban area is divided into zones with a quad tree pattern. Building heights are generated according to the ranges of pitches of sound/music.
Such methodology is applied onto the making of Rhythmi-City Live, a live performance tool to generate the form of a city while music plays/goes along. Inspired by the western musical notation - the Staff or Starve, a grid of road network is parametrically established, followed by buildings created in movement by the beats.
