Yummy Gummy

The project aims to examine the dichotomy of artificial and natural materiality through manipulating organic fruits to represent candies. Our inspiration came from observing gummy candies that claims to be fruit alternatives. They are often advertised to contain Vitamin extracted from real fruit, while most ingredients are artificial and manufactured in reality. Both the appearances and tastes of these supplement candies are generic. However, many still gravitate towards them for taste and nutrients. This phenomenon, in our point of view, represents the contemporary relationship between human and nature, which has been distanced by consumerism and mass- production.
Through the computationally designed process of modifying geometric and textural quality of the fruits, the project mimics manufacturing methods of food products. The defects and discolorations of natural materials are massively reduced, resulting in objects like these candies that both resemble and un-resemble nature.
