Customized Portrait Record
In search of the non-standard, non-layered way of 3d printing techniques, it brought to our interest that to what extent could the machine print textures in a 2d surface? In order to explore more on this feature, we used custom GCode to test out its ability of printing in continuous curves. To challenge the originality of 3d printing, we seeked to print 2d surfaces instead of building up 3d objects. Throughout the process, we used the concept of archimedean spiral to create the basic format of our “digital disks”. Moreover, in order to create more textures, we managed to lay a portrait image on top of the disk and used the curves to composite depths and shades.
