Flavorscape Monster
Remapping Household Activities
How do you cook your meals every day? What are the specific procedures and motions involved in your cooking? Furthermore, how might we capture all these seemingly tedious, commonplace tasks and demonstrate them in a "designer" way?
Flavorscape Monster is a project focused on people's intimate space, kitchen, aimed at visualizing the subtle feelings and emotions merged in this everyday scene with the help of computational design. To add flavors, we utilize motion trajectory recording along with grasshopper modeling to generate little monsters in kitchen, each standing for a piece of personal memory related to cooking. These tiny monsters, fluffy or spiky, are hidden in the space and secretly collect and store people’s memory in their magical way.
Various kinds of activities, including pouring water into a bowl and stirring liquid with a spoon, are recorded and transformed into trajectories, based on which the structure of monster is constructed. We then make experiments with different shapes, tilt angles, and densities, and select the most interesting parts of them as final visualization.
As our first attempt to explore the infinite potential of motion visualization and computational design, Flavorscape Monster introduces a new perspective of viewing and perceiving the intimate space of kitchen. Hope it could flavorize your day!
