The concept of heroism often focuses on grand feats and epic battles, but our project, "Origin of a Hero," seeks to explore the often-overlooked elements that form the foundation of legendary myths. Perseus, the famed Greek hero known for slaying Medusa and rescuing Andromeda, serves as the inspiration for our project. We utilized Grasshopper and C# to visualize the essential components of his myth: the sea, a snake, and stone.

By using HTC Vive controllers, we mimicked the movements of these fundamental elements in order to better visualize the mundane aspects of heroic narratives. This approach challenges traditional perceptions of heroism, encouraging viewers to consider the significance of seemingly ordinary objects and environments in shaping legendary stories.

The sea represents the vast, unpredictable backdrop against which Perseus's adventures unfold. The snake symbolizes both danger and transformation, while stone embodies the permanence and power central to the Medusa myth. By focusing on these elements, "Origin of a Hero" allows us to reconsider what truly makes a hero and how the interplay of commonly tagged “mundane” elements can give rise to extraordinary myths.
