1 Final Model Iterations

Our project drew inspiration from two key sources: structural lattice patterns and thread art installations. The goal was to merge the engineering efficiency of lattice structures, which optimize material usage while maintaining structural integrity, with the aesthetic fluidity of thread art installations.

The dome structure we attempted to create uses a unique overlapping pattern that mimics the tension and flow seen in thread art, where individual strands weave together to create a larger, cohesive form. By translating this concept into a 3D-printed structure, we aimed to challenge traditional solid-wall construction methods while exploring how continuous paths of extruded material could create both structural support and visual interest.

Even though our final outcome was not what we expected, we learned a lot through the process, and now have a better understanding of 3D printing.
