Replicascape
Replicas of Ego in Shop Windows
As human beings, we live in shop windows that are constantly shown to the public. Different scenarios and locations turn out to be different windows, and we keep shifting our own shape to adapt to different windows—when faced with different settings, we put on different masks and morph into different appearances. Consequently, myriad replicas are created from the original “me”.
In this project, we explore the multifaceted nature of human beings by manufacturing a series of virtual replicas and putting them together to construct a display window. Starting from a 3d-scanned mesh, we use C# scripts to set up rules to control the mesh faces—offsetting, explosion, projection, etc. The multiple replicas generated are then collected and displayed in one space, as if multiple copies of oneself exist simultaneously.
To sum up, Replicascape is an experiement of merging computational design methods with the study of self cognition, assisting to recognize oneself in depth from multiple perspectives.
